Palliative Care Australia (PCA) is posing the question 'How will you die' to raise awareness of the issues surrounding inadequate pain management and access to palliative care.
“It might not be a question that we really want to consider,’ said Dr Scott Blackwell, PCA President, ‘but the unfortunate reality is that for billions of people around the world, the answer to ‘How will I die?’ is ‘in considerable pain’.”
PCA, along with Moonshine Movies and the Parliamentary Friends End of Life Care Group, is hosting a screening of the award-winning documentary LIFE before Death. The documentary takes us to 11 countries, including Australia, to uncover an epidemic facing the world – the reality that 600 million people alive today in 160 countries will experience untreated severe pain.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion of this issue and also the Senate Inquiry into Palliative Care.
