Inquiry into special disability trusts

Submission to the Inquiry into special disability trusts (Carers Australia and the Network of Carers Associations, June 2008)

The aim of Special Disability Trusts (SDTs) is to allow families to make future provision for their family members with disabilities.

This submission highlights concerns about the way SDTs are currently administered, including their restrictive nature, limitations, complexity and financial disincentives. It recommends amendments to the current legislation, improvements to the way the caring families are informed about the program and increased support for families who need to plan for the future.
